After a few days working the floor of the 2019 Premium Cigar Association trade show, I finally caught up with Kevin Schweitzer and the Vintage Rock-A-Feller Cigar Group (VCRG). Kevin and his company have been moving the needle ever since he acquired the brand a few years ago. As a previous gold and silver trader, and long time cigar enthusiast, Kevin has been able to open and re-open accounts across the country.
Last year, the company’s Vintage Nicaragua Maduro Lancero scored a solid 97 by Stogie Press, due to the incredible construction, burn, and flavor qualities – and won our Battle of Lanceros. This year the company was showcasing their latest blend, the Dominican Blue, which was a collaborative work between Schweitzer and cigar legend Victor De La Cruz. During are conversation, Kevin explained, how he has been working with his factory to bring back grandfathered blends that pre-date the FDA predicate date of August 2016 in order to keep blends in the pipeline. In the following video, I sat with Kevin and talked about his company and the challenges he faced while reintroducing the brand to the market.
The Dominican Blue
The VRCG Dominican Blue is the creation of legendary cigar maker, Victor De La Cruz in collaboration with Rock-A-Feller Cigars owner, Kevin Schweitzer.
