Southern Draw QuickDraw
Back in November of 2015 we reviewed the Southern Draw Kudzu cigar. You may also recall hat the Kudzu came in 12th in our top 25 boutique cigars for 2016. Now with the samples of the Kudzu, the team from Southern Draw Cigars also included a few petite coronas, known as the QuickDraw. Don’t let the name confuse you as it is not a quick smoke. In fact it lasted the better part of an hour last night. The QuickDraw is a name reminiscent of the wild west here in the US, when gunfighters would square off in a duel, draw, and shoot. The quickest draw would normally win – so long as his aim was good.
The QuickDraw from Southern Draw Cigars is a rugged looking cigar. It reminds of that iconic stogie Clint Eastwood was always smoking in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. And speaking of quick draws, remember the three-man show down at the end? Lets just say Hollywood made Clint the fastest draw in the west, at that time.
The QuickDraw comes in two different wrappers: Ecuadorian Dark Habano, and the more complex Pennsylvanian Broadleaf which is the one I sampled for this review. While the Southern Draw Cigars site suggests the following pairings, which I would agree with, I chose to crack open a Stella Artois which worked just fine:

WINES: CABERNET, PETITE SYRAH, PORT AND LATE HARVEST

After taking the photo I sat back and gave the QuickDraw a once over, noticing the rugged Pennsylvanian Broadleaf dark in color with some prominent veins and rough to the touch. It is finished with a pig tail cap just waiting to be bit off. But before biting that cap, I gave it a little sniff to see what it had to offer. Rich fermented tobacco, that is what it had to offer. I don’t think they skimped on this blend, in fact the site notes that “Both blends have been double fermented and enhanced by using Cuban seed Nicaraguan binder and filler.”

After biting of the cap the cold draw had a sprinkle of pepper to it. The foot is closed so I can’t describe the draw much until I fired it up. I used my torch lighter on this to make sure the thick outer leaf ignited well and I was surprised to be welcomed with immediate notes of fruit and cinnamon with a good shot of pepper on the retro-hale.
The fruity jam note is exceptional and further wrapped in a hint of toasted bread. The draw is perfect and the light gray is holding steady. The smoke production is amazing for a petite corona.
A sweetness enters the profile with some citrus tang developing with a maple syrup aroma gracing the air around me.
A second shot of pepper is building after the band, as the maple syrup aroma continues to intensify. This has been a well blended short smoke for sure.

Overall the QuickDraw is one to reckon with from Southern Draw Cigars. It had an excellent burn resulting from its solid construction and the flavor was full and pleasing to the palate. This is a great medium strength cigar that should be enjoyed anytime of the day.
