Yayabo Cigars. a name few knew last year. But what a year does for a brand; especially if you have a great cigar. As we noted in our 2015 Top 25, Yayabo had what we considered the number 6 cigar of the year. Well the Yayabo team has taken that to the bank and doubled down at the Vegas IPCPR this year with the introduction of 2 new lines – the Yayabo Doña Diana and the Yayabo Cirion.
I have to say, I have been turning fellow cigar smokers onto the Yayabo brand since I smoked the first one at last years IPCPR in New Orleans. I have not gotten a single complaint or negative comment.
Today I would like to discuss the Yayabo Cirion cigar. The question one may have is – what is the meaning of the word Cirion? I spoke to Diany Perez, owner of Yayabo Cigars and asked her that question. She responded:
“In looking for the name, one day at the table we were discussing what to call our cigar. My son, Aaron interrupted and said, “Why don’t you call it Cirion”, which is a character in the movie Lord of the Rings. The name caught our attention and when we looked it up, we got this:
Greek Origin meaning HE WHO IS KING.”
Well King it shall be! While the Coronation of this new addition to the Yayabo portfolio was at the IPCPR in Vegas, this review is based on numerous herfs with friends. Time and time again it kept reminding me that this is what you get from years of farming tobacco.
The Yayabo Cirion blend is described by the company as:
- Wrapper – Ecuadorian Habano
- Binder – Nicaragua
- Filler – Nicaragua (various regions)
It is available in one vitola – a 6 x 50 Toro, and is packaged in 20-count boxes.
For this review I sampled the Yayabo Cirion Toro
Cigar Review Notes
- Smooth, slightly waxy, medium brown Habano wrapper
- Solid to the touch
- Sweet barrel with fruit and nut on the foot
- Cold draw – white pepper, nut, and some exotic component I can’t place
- On ignition I got a white pepper hit to the throat and red pepper through the nasal
- This opens the nostrils for sure and lasts for a good half-inch
- It all smooths out after an inch of burn revealing a woody and cream note along with a fruit and nut aroma
- The light grey ash holds strong for two inches
- Once the ash falls, a perfect burn cone is revealed
- The edge of the wrapper is building oils a good 1/4 inch above the burn line
- Full body of creamy smoke
- Mild Spice enters the second third
- Fruit fills out the profile with a bit of sweetness
- I have given these to some friends and got nothing but positive response and they all asked – Where can I buy them?
- Dry cocoa enters at the end of the second third
- Aroma shifts to a ripe berry
- Coffee and berry notes enter near end of second third
- Finishes with a syrup and light spice
- Medium strength
- This is certainly a box buy
Overall, the Yayabo Cirion is an amazing cigar, full of rich flavor notes throughout the 90 minutes of error-free burn. Smoking it to the nub just left me wanting another. If you “friend” Diany Perez on Facebook, you will see the many amazing videos of their fields, processing, and even quality control that they pride themselves in for every cigar.
We would like to note that Yayabo cigars is a Stogie Press sponsor but in no way has that impacted this review.
Any ideas on where one could order some Cirion by Yayabo?
Jeff, contact @yayabocigarsales I am sure they can help.
