Camacho Candela Cigar Review by Zac Riley

This cigar was purchased at my local Brick and Mortar, The Cigar Room Shoals. This was my first time smoking this cigar. I typically am not crazy about Camacho Cigars, but this one was very different to me, so sit back, relax, and enjoy another rendition of a review by none other than Zac Riley.

The Camacho Candela blend is described as by the company as a Honduran puro:

  • Binder: Honduran Original Corojo
  • Filler: Honduran Original Corojo

The 2018 Camacho Candela is available in one 5 x 50 Robusto and retails for $8.00/cigar. This is a limitied edition cigar with only 3,000 25-count boxes produced.

Smoking Experience:

Cold Draw: The cold draw has some hints of dry hay and grassy notes. Mixed with some floral notes and such. Very interesting for a candela. Let’s see what this cigar holds for us.

First Third: The first third of the Camacho Candela is very intriguing. On the initial light I got tons of spice in the forefront. It’s still had that taste that most Candelas do, but with much more spice. A very interesting twang for a Candela. The notes that I listed in the cold draw are very similar to the notes that I’m getting in the beginning. Through the nose I’m getting a mixture of a white pepper and dark pepper spice, along with a subtle sweetness.

Second Third: We are into the second third of the Camacho Candela. The spice has dissipated for the most part in the inhale. Now we are getting into that true Candela like taste. The notes that I’m getting are mainly hay like and grassy notes. Completely different from the first third. Which is good, because it gives it a complexity. Through the nose I am getting a white pepper spice that is extremely light, some light sweetness, and that hay that is in the inhale as well. I’ll be back in just a little while for the final third and the finish with this wonderful cigar.

Final third/Finish: The final third is very similar to the second third of the Camacho Candela, but with much more strength. It still has those grassy, hay, and sweet flavors through this section of the smoke. Through the nose I am getting no spice at all in the nose, but with a huge amount of sweetness and the floral note has returned. A great a to end this wonderful smoke.

Overview: This was a STUPENDOUS smoke. Easily the best Candela I’ve ever had the pleasure to smoke. So much depth, complexity, wonderful flavor, and excellent burn.
