Camacho PowerBand Cigar Review – Live Loud

Camacho Cigars, a brand known to cigar connoisseurs across the globe has been making a quite a splash with its Master Built series of cigars. In fact their whole website is pushing the “Loud Life”  including a whole page devoted to the Camacho Master Built Road Tour. The latest addition to the Master Built series is the PowerBand.

The Camacho PowerBand uses a Davidoff proprietary bunching technique that combines the accordion bunching style together with the old Cuban Entuban process of rolling in filler leaves. This new bunching technique is designed to maximize the inside airflow – a truly innovative process for sure.

The blend of the Camacho PowerBand is described as:

  • Wrapper – Ecuador Habano 2000
  • Binder – San Andrés
  • Filler – Original Corojo & Nicaraguan Esteli Ligero

They are available in 3 vitolas and packaged in 20 – count boxes:

  • Gordo – 6 x 60 (MSRP $13.00)
  • Robusto – 5 x 50 (MSRP $11.00)
  • Toro – 6 x 50 (MSRP $12.00)

Pre-Ignition Inspection

Camacho PowerbandThe Camacho Powerband is a bold looking cigar with its dark brown, high sheen, wrapper that is light on veins. It has a lightly smokey aroma on the foot and notes of earth and leather on the cold draw. The cigar is banded with the silver and black band with the word Camacho centered in it along with the identifying word “Master Built Series” under. There is also the PowerBand V logo imprinted on it. It is finished with a footer band that further declares it as the PowerBand cigar.  That footer band has a lot going on as it describes it as Full Throttle Flavor – Blast of Endorphins – The Force of Acceleration – High Octane Intensity.

Let’s start this baby up and see how it performs!

For this review I sampled the Camacho Powerband Gordo which I received as part of the package at the Smoke Inn Great Smoke a few months ago.

Cigar Review Notes

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

  • Dry fruit and white pepper notes to start
  • Salt and pepper ash rests on a medium char line
  • Astringent citrus notes enter
  • Burn is a tad wavy after first inch
  • Full body of smoke
  • Slightly off centered burn cone
  • Syrupy aroma starts into second third
  • Sweetness enters
  • Sweet spice finds its way in by the second half coupled with some cedar
  • The aroma evolves into maple syrup
  • Strength starts to pick up
  • Burn is behaving well now
  • Spice is prominent at the end of second third
  • Wrapper has oiled up well
  • Aroma shifts to cocoa
  • The spice moves back toward pepper
  • Burns hot at the finish
  • Finished with spiced nut and citrus
  • Medium to full strength
  • Faster burn than I expected – clocking in at 1 hour and 10 minutes

Overall, the Camacho PowerBand was a decent cigar that offered acceptable flavor transitions. It had some early burn issues which eventually corrected and it burned quicker than I desired. I did not like the hot burn at the end.
