As I noted in a previous post, I trekked up to the NY, NJ, and PA tri-state area over the the July 4th weekend to tour and review a number of cigar lounges. The trip actually started with me flying from Orlando to Newark, where I was picked up by my host Daniel Nina, owner of Sticks Cigars in Rahway, NJ. I should note, Daniel and I met on a DBL Cigars tour to the Dominican Republic earlier this year and we have been talking ever since about about bringing me up to tour some shops in the tri-state area. After some back and forth on the dates, we finally agreed on the July 4th weekend and Daniel arranged the tour for me and agreed to be my host for the weekend.
After a brief check into my hotel in Rahway, NJ we hit the road and headed south to Morrisville, PA. The first stop on the Stogie Press Independence Day weekend, cigar shop tour, was Mr. Stogy’s located in Morrisville, PA. The drive took us about an hour for the roughly 50 miles, which was mostly highway driving. Once you cross the bridge from Trenton, NJ you drive along some county roads into Morrisville, PA. The borough of Morrisville is located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States, just below the falls of the Delaware River opposite Trenton, New Jersey.
Mr. Stogy’s is located in a small strip mall on W. Trenton Avenue, about a mile from the Delaware River. The shop is clearly marked with a black sign with the yellow words “Mr. Stogy’s” and the white words “Cigar Parlor” underneath. It is right next to Mannino’s Pizzeria & Restaurant.
Now the reason I was visiting Mr. Stogy’s Cigar Parlor is because I like to keep my promises. A few years ago at an IPCPR trade show, I met the manager of the lounge, John Rollins. He gave me his card and said if I was ever in the area to please stop by. I met John again at the DBL Cigars Tour in the Dominican Republic earlier this year and told him I have not forgotten his invite. So when Daniel and I put together the lounge tour, I said I must visit John at Mr. Stogy’s.
The Shop
As we entered the shop, I was warmly greeted by John and he gave me a walk through the shop before we got to sitting down to enjoy an Independence Day smoke and some fine conversation. When you walk in the shop, you are immediately inundated with cigar selections. It is said Mr. Stogy’s has one of the largest collections of cigars in the area and I have to agree.
There is a large walk-in humidor in addition to numerous cigar cabinets throughout the front of the store. You would be hard pressed not to find a cigar that meets your palate at Mr. Stogy’s. The selection ranges from the biggest brands like Padron and Fuente all the way to some of the most sought after small boutique brands. They also have a decent selection of cigar accessories at the front counter.
Mr. Stogy’s is also a certified Fuente shop, as they proudly display the certification. Not every shop gets this and it certifies the shop has the knowledge and experience in premium cigars to carry the line. John has been the face of this lounge for about a decade, and I can attest he knows his cigars and I will assure you, he will fit your palate with a cigar that meets your desire.
Once you get past the cigar area, you then enter the lounge area that proudly displays a large American flag on the back wall next to the cigar lockers. The lounge has ample and comfortable seating along with 4 flat screen televisions for your viewing enjoyment. I would describe this as an old school cigar lounge. John did tell me they have regular cigar tasting and brand events that bring in a decent crowd.
The shop does not serve spirits or food but they do have soft drinks and a Keurig coffee machine if you need that extra jolt during your visit. Of course you can bring your own food or drink in. On the day I was there, John brought in lunch, including fried chicken and all the fixings.
Cigar Chat With John Rollins
John and I sat for a few minutes to catch up on things and talked about the lounge, his beloved Cleveland Browns, and his take on the newly announced, Premium Cigar Association CigarCon event.
