IPCPR/PCA NEWS: Oscar Valladares Cigars

During this years IPCPR/PCA Trade Show, I got the chance to chat a little with Oscar Valladares about how his company is growing and what new products he has for the market. For a small company that started just a few short years ago with the famed Leaf by Oscar, a collaboration between Island Jim Robinson and Oscar Valladares, this company has taken off with an impressive array of brands. This year Oscar explains how it all started with “his baby”- the Leaf by Oscar – but took off. For 2019 the company has added two more blends to its wide portfolio, the Super Fly and the Wild Hunter.

The Super Fly

The new Oscar Valladares Super Fly is the first time Oscar created a filler blend with Dominican, Nicaraguan, and Honduran tobaccos. The blend is described as:

  • Wrapper – Mexican San Andrés
  • Binder – Honduran (Copan)
  • Filler – Honduras, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic.

The Super Fly is produced at the Oscar Valladares Tobacco factory in Danlí, Honduras. It is presented in 3 vitolas, each packaged in 20-count boxes. a

  • Super Corona (5.25 x 45) – MSRP $9.00
  • Super Toro (6 x 54) – MSRP $10.50
  • Super Gordo (6.5 x 60) – MSRP $11.50

The Wild Hunter

In creating the Wild Hunter, Oscar wanted to give the consumer ‘the full experience of Honduran flavor‘. He feels he accomplished this by using filler and binder grown on his own farms, La Entrada a Copan and El Paraiso.

The Wild Hunter comes in a natural and an oscuro blend. Each blend is 100% Honduran.

Wild Hunter Natural:

  • Wrapper – Honduran (Copan)
  • Binder/Filler – Honduran

Wild Hunter Oscuro:

  • Wrapper – Honduran Dark Oscuro (Copan)
  • Binder/Filler – Honduran

Both cigars are presented in a 6 x 52 toro vitola. MSRP has been set at $9.50/cigar. Each blend comes packaged in 20-count camouflaged boxes with leaf cuttings surrounding the cigars.
