Cigar Review: Matilde Cigars Limited Exposure No. 2 Toro – Rated 94

Back 2021, Matilde Cigars introduced the first of a new line of cigars known as the Limited Exposure. Enrique Seijas, co-owner of Matilde, stated in a press release that there will be three different blends in the new limited line and expects to have multiple sizes per blend. The first in the line was known as the Limited Exposure No. 1 and subsequent blends would be named No.2 and No. 3.

At this years Tabacco Plus Expo, the company showcased the Limited Exposure No. 2 which started shipping to retailers in April. The No Joke Smoke event in Hawaii this past April was sponsored by Matilde and featured these new cigars and after publishing the article on the event, the team sent me some of the new Matilde cigars including the Limited Exposure No. 2.

The company describes the blend as:

  • Wrapper – Ecuadorian corojo
  • Binder – Dominican Republic
  • Filler – Dominican Republic

The cigar is expressed in a (6 x 50) toro and has an MSRP set at $10.50/cigar. They are limited to 7,000 cigars and come packaged in 20-count boxes.

Pre-Light Examination

The Matilde Cigars Limited Exposure No. 2 is an excellent looking cigar, with just a few veins running through its milk chocolate brown wrapper. It is solidly packed and smooth to the touch. A double cap finishes the presentation.

A single purple and gold band adorns the cigar that boldly displays the company’s logo in the center. Careful examination also shows that the band declares this as a Limited Edition and also notes that it is the “No. 2” and Includes the Year of Production “2022”

Running the barrel along the nose, I picked up a sweet and enticing baking spice note while the foot offered notes of butter and a mild earthiness.

Using my double blade cutter, I sliced the cap straight across the shoulder and proceeded to give it some cold draw puffs that I found to be even more inviting than the pre-light aromas with notes of raisin, dry dark cocoa and leather.

With the pre-light examination out of the way, I used my double flame torch to warm the foot to an even orange glow and drew in the first puffs of mild raisin and pepper notes to start the journey. Follow along as I burn this one to ash.

Final Analysis

The Matilde Cigars Limited Exposure No. 2 Toro offered a pleasantly flavorful journey with excellent transitions and a balanced profile. I especially enjoyed the evolving dark chocolate notes and cedar along with the espresso notes that appeared in the final. This was a complex yet balanced cigar. The burn was error free except for a mild jag in the burn but never needed a touch up. I would say this is box worthy and maybe set some aside to age a bit more and see how much better it gets. I rate this a solid 94.

Point Deductions: (-1) Mild Jag In Burn; (-1) Flat but Centered Burn Cone

Bonus Points: (+1) Box Buy; (+1) Complex and Balanced
